Spencer

Spencer is Bill's bird in every way.  They share oatmeal together at 3 a.m. before Bill leaves for work at McDonald's.  She lets him manhandle her and laps up the attention.  It is only with great distrust that I'm even allowed to open her cage so she can play outside and I've only picked her up once without her biting and that was after she'd satisfied herself that Bill wasn't home to play with her after she'd walked across half the house to find him.

Spencer is a 2.5 years old Hahn's macaw and came to us when she was just turning one.  The original owner did everything "by the book" and the book said dogs might scare the birds and they should be removed from frightening situations.  When Spencer got excited watching the dog next door frisk around in its yard, the owner moved her into a darkened room with no uncovered windows so she wouldn't be afraid, then wondered why Spencer started to pluck herself bare.  Bill and I were running the rescue at that point and he fell in love with her.  It's taken a year and a half, but she's finally fully feathered except for a couple little spots.

Besides being attached to or screaming for Bill, she loves to run back and forth across the top of her cage.  When she was plucking, it was especially funny as her silhouette looked like a cartoon character, bent over to almost touching her beak to the cage top and running around.

When she first came, she tried to physically connect with Peace so we had to move the cages apart enough that there's about an inch gap they can't reach across and by now she doesn't try.  However, they are still good friends (at least on her part) and when we took the birds to the Pet Expo in November, she got very vocal calling for Peace when Bill and I were separated.  (Bill was wearing her and I had a tiel on each shoulder and Peace on top of my head - we made quite the sight!).
